Offshore wind developer Neptune Wind announced Monday that the company has “finalized our preferred site for development” off of Nanucket, MA.
The potential site, selected after a year of research, is large enough to accommodate 1.5 GW of offshore wind production, according to Neptune founder Chuck Digate.
The announcement, made via the company’s blog, did not disclose the exact location of the site. However, according to Mr. Digate’s blog post, the potential site is far enough from land to avoid tribal concerns and is not located on top of rich fishing grounds.
Neptune is awaiting a Request for Interest from the Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management before disclosing the size of the project or a potential timeline for development. It remains unclear as to when the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management will release the RFI.
