AWEA Forms New Offshore Wind Coalition

The American Wind Energy Association announced the formation Wednesday of a new offshore wind development coalition.
“The creation of this coalition demonstrates the growing interest in offshore wind energy in the U.S.,” AWEA CEO Denise Bode said in a press release.  “Offshore wind provides a great opportunity … particularly along the Eastern Seaboard.”

National Lab Releases Offshore Wind Assessment

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory last month published the most comprehensive study to date of the country’s offshore wind resource.
The study, Assessment of Offshore Wind Energy Resources for the United States, compiles data on Hawaii and much of the lower 48 continguous states.  In most situations, mapping was conducted up to 50 nautical miles from the shoreline.

MORNING ROUNDUP: Cape Wind’s Costs

Massachusetts Attorney General (and failed Senate candidate) Martha Coakley’s recent demand that Cape Wind disclose its cost and profit estimates has prompted the developer to publicly defend the proposed 130-turbine offshore wind project.
