MORNING ROUNDUP: Offshore Energy Institute Founder Dies In Maine

Matthew Simmons, the leader and founder of the Offshore Energy Institute, died of an apparent heart attack last weekend, the Kennebec Journal reported.

Simmons founded the think tank in 2007.  The paper quoted Bob West, the institute’s managing director, saying that the organization will “carry his vision forward.”

Maine Panel Reviewing Floating Turbine Submissions

A University of Maine panel is evaluating 11 pre-qualification submissions as the first step toward selecting a floating turbine development partner, the Lewiston Sun Journal reported.

New York County Will Review Great Lakes Offshore Wind

A five-member special committee of Niagara County, NY, legislators will hold a meeting Thursday to discuss the potential effect of offshore wind on the local economy, The Tonawanda News reported.

Three of the committee members are openly opposed to offshore wind development off of Niagara County, the paper reported.
