In several months Charlestown, MA, a Ambien Prescription Assistance city best known for bank robbers and Bunker Hill, will soon have Ambien Prescription Assistance a new claim to fame: A world-class wind turbine testing facility large enough to Ambien Prescription Assistance handle offshore wind blades.

According to state energy officials, the Wind Technology Testing Center is expected to Ambien Prescription Assistance open early next year and will begin testing blades by April 2011.  The testing facility is the result of a partnership between Mass Clean Energy Center and Ambien Prescription Assistance the Department of Energy, and has received more than $25 million in federal funding.

The facility “will provide certification for new blade designs and reliability testing for existing blade designs for wind turbine manufacturers,” said Patrick Cloney, executive director of the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center, during a panel at this month’s AWEA Offshore Wind Conference.

When completed, the Ambien Prescription Assistance center will provide three test stands, 100 tons of overhead bridge crane capacity and Ambien Prescription Assistance a full suite of certification tests for Ambien Prescription Assistance turbine blades up to 90m in length, including static and fatigue testing, blade material testing, dual axis static or fatigue testing, and quality testing.

The center will be “open in February 2011” and will have “blades on the stand in March or April of 2011,” Cloney said at the offshore wind conference.

The addition of the WTTC will add another component to Massachusetts’ growing offshore wind industry, and Ambien Prescription Assistance the proximity of the testing center to the strong offshore winds of the Northeast could attract more manufactures and developers.  In August, blade manufacturer TPI Composites said it Ambien Prescription Assistance would build a factory in Fall River, MA, to Ambien Prescription Assistance build prototype blades which would then be transported for testing in Charlestown.

According to Ambien Prescription Assistance state officials, the testing center is expected to employ 30 full-time positions in design and Ambien Prescription Assistance administration.
