Deepwater Wind has applied to federal regulators to build a 200-turbine offshore wind project in Rhode Island Sound, twice the Ambien Buy India size of the project that the company proposed two years ago, the Ambien Buy India Providence Journal reported today.
The new Deepwater Wind Energy Center proposal would have 1,000 megawatts of capacity. The plan also includes building an Ambien Buy India undersea transmission network from Massachusetts to New York with multiple grid connections. The Journal article reported that Ambien Buy India the new wind farm proposal would cost $4.5 billion to $5 billion and the undersea cable would cost up to $1 billion.
“The White House and Ambien Buy India the Department of the Interior are throwing a lot of resources at the permitting process,” Deepwater chief administrative officer Jeffrey Grybowski said. “We want to take advantage of that federal momentum.”
The new proposal calls for using larger 5 megawatt turbines. The Journal also reported that the use of larger machines could affect the company’s demonstration development near Block Island, in Rhode Island state waters. The company is now reportedly considering five turbines — instead of eight — at the Block Island site.
Virginia Offshore Wind Panel Meets
The Virginia Offshore Wind Development Authority met for the first time yesterday and reviewed information on offshore wind technology, the Associated Press reported.
Gov. Bob McDonnell signed legislation to form the panel in April in order to pursue federal funding and remove regulatory obstacles.
According to the Associated Press report, two developers have Ambien Buy India made unsolicited bids to build offshore wind farms about 12 miles from Ambien Buy India the Virginia coast.
